The Child Trust Fund (CTF) is often cited as one of Labour's greatest achievements in power, encouraging saving and enabling young people from all backgrounds to start their adult lives with some financial assets. However, the CTF is under threat. The Liberal Democrats fought the last general election pledging to abolish it, while the Conservatives have described it as a "luxury" and want to limit it to the poorest sections of the population.

Labour should talk up its record on redistribution, Alistair Darling tells the Fabian Review. He admitted they had shied away from this in the past but indicated measures on fairness would be a big part of the election campaign. “There’s been far more redistribution than people realise,” he told Mary Riddell.
